Valentine’s Day Treats in JXN

by Rebecca Fending

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and what would the holiday of hearts be without a few treats? With a plethora of bakeries, sweet shops and even a French-style pâtisserie, Jackson is your destination for all things Valentine-themed.

Nandy’s Candy

Nandy’s Candy – 1220 East Northside Drive
This Maywood Mart shop specializes in small-batch, handmade sweets from chocolate turtles to popcorn.

Their current Valentine’s features are classic chocolate-dipped strawberries, a loaded Valentine’s-themed caramel apple, assorted chocolate boxes, marshmallow hearts and even gummi XOs. With several other items available on their website, you may be tempted to get something for yourself.

Crafted in copper pots for an added layer of authenticity and homage to chocolate pioneers, Nandy’s Candy offers quality.

Whether you prefer to shop in-store, order for curbside pickup or online, Nandy’s has an array of beautifully packaged boxes with your sweetheart’s name on them.

La Brioche – 1200 Eastover Drive at Cultivation Food Hall
La Brioche, at the District at Eastover, has many sweets that are sure to set the romantic mood for the weekend.

Started by two sisters from Argentina, Alejandra Mamud and Cristina Lazzari, with culinary school under their belts, this French-style patisserie invokes influence from Europe.

La Brioche offers authentic French macarons and croissants in a variety of flavors, sorbet and, of course, chocolate-covered strawberries for preorder.

Campbell’s petit four

Campbell’s Bakery – 3013 North State Street
Known for their baked goods like iced tea cakes, Campbell’s has offered the city a taste of the classics since 1962. However, once Pastry Chef Mitchell Moore took over in 2011, Campbell’s underwent a rework of the classic menu, a move that has won them several “Best Of” awards in the past five years.

This month, treat you and your Valentine to Campbell’s specialties like house-made cheesecake, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, chess squares and even petit fours, complete with a festive pink swirl on the top. If you have a particular item or design in mind, you can order custom goods on Campbell’s website.

Beagle Bagel Café – 4500 I-55 North at Highland Village
Don’t let the name fool you: this café offers more than just fresh made bagels. Treats like cookies, cakes and petit fours give this Jackson bakery the range to satisfy any craving. With cake flavors like praline, German chocolate, butter brickle and the classics, cake by-the-slice or as a whole may be your best bet for indulgence this Valentine’s Day.

Beagle Bagel Café also takes custom orders for cakes and other treats, but be sure to order soon.
