Summer is the time to grab a friend and find your new favorite spot to grab a drink. Jackson has no shortage of unique, historic and just downright fascinating places for a craft cocktail. From a historically-kept drug store to a modern lounge, find your oasis in the City With Soul this summer.
Library Lounge – 734 Fairview Street
Originally built as part of the Fairview Mansion in 1908, the Library Lounge celebrates native Mississippi authors in a semi-casual and historic setting. The cocktail menu – with rotating drink specials and new cocktail creations – should not be overlooked when it comes to refreshing and unique drinks.
The Eudora Welty cocktail is just what the doctor ordered during a Mississippi summer, with Cathead vodka, Domaine De Canton ginger liqueur, cel-ray soda and muddled cucumbers. Or, for those who favor a more tropical flavor profile, try the Saint Mary Cocktail, made with Bacardi white rum, pineapple juice, coconut water, peach nectar and plantation pineapple rum.
The Library Lounge also has a Happy Hour from 4 pm to 6 pm, Monday through Friday. During these hours, the Lounge offers $1 off beer, $2 off house wine, $2 off Author’s Drinks and $5 well drinks.

The Apothecary at Brent’s Drugs – 655 Duling Avenue
Brent’s, a landmark drug store is located in the Fondren district, celebrates their 75th anniversary this year. In 2013, The Apothecary opened and introduced itself as Jackson’s original classic cocktail bar. The unmarked space occupies the former pharmacy storage room.
With drinks like a negroni, old fashioned and even the traditional daiquiri, made with rum, sugar and lime, The Apothecary stays true to the classics.
However, the modern twist is not only found in the atmosphere but also the seasonal cocktails. Their late summer cocktails menu boasts drinks such as the Pink Phosphorescent, made with gin, Crème de Mûre, grapefruit oleo, phosphate and lemon. Or, if you’re looking for a taste of the tropics, the New Miami has you covered with everything you need for a great vacation: tequila, jalapeno, coconut and lime.

The restaurant and lounge specializes in rejuvenating, handcrafted cocktails. A drink like the Pomegranate Martini, made with vodka, pomegranate and mango, is sure to set you right after some fun in the sun this summer. Or, if you are looking for something a bit boozier, try the Jaded Martini, crafted with Coconut Malibu rum, vodka and Midori sour—perfect for a summer staycation.

4th Avenue Lounge – 209 South Lamar Street
Noted as the “hottest bar in town,” 4th Avenue Lounge is an exciting hybrid between a cocktail lounge and event venue in downtown Jackson with gatherings from networking, VIP reservations or even birthday parties in mind.
What would a cocktail lounge be without exciting mixed drinks and cocktails? Drinks like “The Woman in Red,” made with Malibu, ginger beer, strawberry purée and a sprig of fresh mint, this is a perfect cocktail on a warm summer night.
For a lighter tasting glass, the Stiletto, which features Bacardi, lemon juice, mint leaves and Prosecco, is an ideal blend of favorite summer flavors.
