On a Roll: Food Trucks in JXN

A fun and unique way to dine, food trucks are the perfect way to grab a bite to eat during a lunch break at work or a snack while out and about. They’re an excellent option for when groups of people all want something different to eat.

Hog Heaven BBQ

One food truck you might see in Jackson is Hog Heaven BBQ. Dubbed “the best little BBQ store you always heard about” by locals, this food truck is smokin’ premium St. Louis-style ribs, pulled pork and other BBQ classics that will satisfy any barbecue lover.

Hog Heaven diners can choose from a Sandwich Box with the choice of pulled pork or pulled chicken and their choice of side, BBQ nachos with pork or chicken, ribs and sausage dogs. facebook.com/hogmeatwagon

One Guy Steak & Chicken

Another local favorite food truck, One Guy Steak & Chicken, is serving up delicious steak and chicken, of course, but the food might not be what you would expect from a food truck.

Chef Kendrick Gordon trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, and his goal is to stand out by offering unique, quality meals.

At lunchtime, diners can choose from sandwiches, pitas, salads, steak fingers and even veggie options. Sandwich options are blackened chicken, bourbon chicken and crispy chicken. If you love pitas, choose from bourbon filet mignon, chargrilled chicken and grilled filet mignon. No lunch is complete without a side of fries, and One Guy offers four different kinds. You can even dine at One Guy for dinner with options like a Ribeye Sandwich, a grilled filet mignon with mashed potatoes, blackened grilled chicken and many other delicious options that vary depending on the day of the week.

One Guy Steak & Chicken has recently acquired a takeout “brick and mortar” off I-55 in Northeast Jackson (near Playpen). facebook.com/oneguysteakandchicken

Taqueria La Reata

If you love tacos, Taqueria La Reata serves up delicious Mexican fare that’s perfect on Taco Tuesday and any other day.

Their menu is different depending on the day. It typically includes soft tacos, quesadillas, burritos, tortas, taco salads, nachos and a super taco with your choice of either steak, chicken, pork, sausage, ground beef or even vegetarian. Other menu items may include shrimp tacos, chicken or ham salad, gringa quesadillas and other authentic Mexican dishes.

Taqueria La Reata moves all around the metro area, but when in Jackson, you can usually find them on I-55 North Frontage Road next to C Spire at Deville Plaza. facebook.com/lareatafoodtruck

Chunky Dunks

Food trucks aren’t just for tacos and barbecue, though, and Chunky Dunks Sweets Truck is the perfect option when you’ve got a sweet tooth.

This truck has treats like ice cream nachos, hot fudge sundaes, ice cream sandwiches and floats, brownie a la mode, classic ice cream scoops and a creation dubbed “Cool Moon” – a moon pie with ice cream.

Though Chunky Dunks focuses heavily on private events and neighborhood visits, you can also find the truck in downtown Jackson during Greater Jackson Arts Council’s Food Truck Fridays (currently on hiatus).

Chunky Dunks will also be adding a new truck to their collection with a Which Wich sandwich truck – the only one in Mississippi – and only one of four in the nation. facebook.com/chunkydunkstruck
