With Saint Patrick’s Day just around the corner, now is the time to scope out your holiday plans. If you’re looking for an authentic experience, complete with corned beef and cabbage, Fenian’s Pub in the Belhaven neighborhood is the place to be.
Established in 1996, Fenian’s and its chef-driven menu features locally sourced ingredients that put a unique Mississippi twist on traditional Irish dishes.
The locally-owned and operated pub cites the legend of Finn McCool and his band of warriors, the Fianna, for their name. This omniscient Irish legend is said to lie in waiting under Dublin, ready to rise again in Ireland’s darkest hour.
Fenian’s menu boasts Irish classics such as shepherd’s pie – made the traditional way with local lamb – and corned beef and cabbage served with a Southern spin of creole mustard cream. These dishes and their fish and chips and Mississippi Reuben – made with Cajun-spiced corned beef, swiss, sauerkraut and traditional comeback sauce on rye – are all popular choices among new and returning customers.
For anyone looking for something other than a true Irish classic, the pub also offers a variety of sandwiches, salads and burgers, including their house favorite, the Fried Chicken Sando, made with Joyce Farms’ chicken thigh, rasher, pickled cabbage and creole honey mustard on a brioche bun.
As any proper Irish pub has, Fenian’s carries a variety of Irish beers and whiskeys. From Guinness to Harp, Jameson and Glenlivet, the extensive beer and whiskey lists go on.
The extensive choices for cuisine, beer and whiskey are what make Fenian’s a hotspot for authenticity throughout the year, but especially on St. Patrick’s Day. In years past, the pub has held an Irish breakfast buffet both on St. Patrick’s Day, as well as Hal’s St. Paddy’s Day Parade. Although the celebration in 2021 may look a bit different, Fenian’s will offer dishes for carryout, as well as socially distanced and outdoor seating for dine-in guests.
Fenian’s is located at 901 East Fortification Street and is open Monday through Friday from 11 am to midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 5 pm to midnight.
