Griffin’s Fish House: Good Eating, Great Prices

The Restaurant: Located on West Capitol Street in West Jackson, Griffin’s Fish House is hard to miss with its new, brightly colored exterior. The vibrant shades of green on the exterior will catch any passerby’s attention, as will the well-advertised $5.00 Heavy Plate – but more on that later. The restaurant is a counter service spot with online ordering through menufy.com, for the tech savvy customer who wants to decrease wait time. There’s also delivery options available.

The Atmosphere: It is a very casual restaurant with limited indoor seating similar to other small mom & pop restaurants in Jackson. Make no mistake, this place is bustling on a Friday, so prepare for quite the wait time unless you order online for pick-up.

The Menu: Although it is a fish house in name, Griffin’s Fish House has very extensive menu offerings with everything from fried bologna sandwiches to its renowned Wobble Wobble burger –  and the steal of a deal that is the $5 Heavy Plate. There’s always a daily manager’s special in addition to the regular menu, which is already very reasonably priced. For anyone looking for a good bite to eat that’s not heavy on the wallet, it may be worth it to give Griffin’s a try.

The Food: Although Griffin’s is best known for its Wobble Wobble Burger, there was something about two massive beef patties with all the fixings I was not brave enough to tackle in a lunch hour. So, I opted for the 12 oz Wobble Jr. with Cheese, the Lemon Pepper Wings and a side of Lemon Pepper Fries. First up – the Wobble Jr. burger. Folks, if there’s a Wobble larger than the one I ordered, I can understand how it may have gotten its name! Topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and cheese, the burger was a hit. I could only savor half for the time being, as I had lemon pepper wings and fries to test out as well. The lemon pepper wings were perfectly seasoned and deep fried naked – good stuff. The hand-cut fries were seasoned with the same zesty seasoning and made for a good pairing with the Wobble Jr. – I mean – the half of the Wobble Jr. burger.  I literally had enough left to eat for dinner later, which was just as good.
