Captiol Grill: A Bit More “Upscale” than Your Run-of-the-Mill Sports Bar

The Restaurant
Much like any sports bar, TV screens and sports memorabilia don the walls at Capitol Grill, but there’s something about this place that seems a bit more “upscale” than your run-of-the-mill sports bar. It’s a very spacious restaurant and allows plenty of room to move around, even on more crowded nights. The bar is also larger than most, with plenty of seating if diners wish to hang out at the bar instead of a table.

The Atmosphere
My family joined me on this trip to Capitol Grill (a first for all of us), and we were immediately welcomed as we walked in and were told to have a seat wherever we’d like. It was a slow night at Capitol Grill, but it was still a relaxed and unique atmosphere. Our server was kind and attentive, and the kitchen got our food out within a reasonable amount of time.

The Menu and the Food
The menu at Capitol Grill covers all the bases, and there’s sure to be something for everyone here. Chicken wings, Philly cheesesteak, burgers, pizza, seafood, and even gator bites are just a few of the options to choose from. A fun twist on some of the menu items is that all the SEC schools are also worked into the titles of dishes on the menu, such as the Crimson Tide Bloody Mary, War Eagle Chicken Sandwich, The Bulldog Pizza, and Rebel Red Beans.

My family and I started off with chips, queso, and salsa as an appetizer. The salsa had a unique flavor to it that I’d never tasted before, but it was flavorful and tasty. That, along with the queso, made the perfect snack for our party of five to munch on before our meal.

I’m a sucker for simple bar food like chicken tenders or a burger/sandwich of some sort, so for my meal, I decided to go with the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich with a side of fries. The chicken was fried and drenched in hot sauce, and it did not disappoint.

BBQ Sandwich

The rest of the table ordered Chicken Tenders with Sweet Potato Fries, Red Beans and Rice, a BBQ Sandwich and French Fries, and Chicken Wings with a side of Onion Rings. If you like onion rings, then you’ll love the ones at Capitol Grill – they might be my new favorite. They’re extra crunchy and some of the best onion rings I’ve had. If you’re thinking about ordering the wings, here’s your warning that these things are huge. My brother ordered six without realizing how big they were, and he needed a little help finishing them. They’re coated in just enough sauce that it’s not too much, but they aren’t dry, either. Everyone else at the table was pleased with their meals, and it’s safe to say that I will go back to Capitol Grill. The Screaming Jalapeño Burger is next on my list, with a side of onion rings, of course.

Whether you’re looking for a place to watch whatever game is on TV, a workday lunch, or just a casual dinner, Capitol Grill is great for whatever the occasion. The kitchen is also open till 1 a.m., so it’s perfect for the late-night crowd, too. The food is simple yet delicious, and a meal won’t break the bank.
