Best of: Fried Chicken

Here in the South, we love fried chicken. Being in Mississippi, we’re definitely not lacking in places to get a good fried chicken meal complete with all the fixin’s. Here are some of our favorite places to get a delicious dish of fried chicken in the capital city.

Char Fried Chicken Blue Plate

Known for their steaks and delicious brunch, Char also serves up a delicious Country Fried Chicken dish on their lunch menu. Served with a side of garlic cheddar grits and red onion bacon gravy, you can’t beat the fried chicken at Char. You can also find Fried Chicken on the blue-plate menu on Wednesdays. Pick two home-style sides to go along with it, and your Southern comfort lunch is complete. Check out Char’s menu:

Parlor Market

Parlor Market fried chicken

There’s something about fried chicken on Wednesdays, because that’s exactly what you’ll find on the blue-plate menu at Parlor Market on this day, too. Parlor Market’s Buttermilk Fried Chicken comes with a side of Louisiana honey, making it the perfect lunchtime dish. PM blue-plates also come served with two sides, a sweet potato muffin, and tea. It doesn’t get much more southern than that. Check out Parlor Market’s menu:

Iron Horse Grill

While Iron Horse’s menu is extensive, it’s all delicious, and the same can be said for their Chicken Fried Chicken. Iron Horse has been around for years now, and there’s a reason people keep coming back. Enjoy your fried chicken with a side of mashed potatoes and the vegetable of the day and finish it off with a slice of Mississippi Praline Cheesecake for dessert. Check out their menu:

Another Wednesday, another fried chicken blue-plate. Scrooge’s has been a Jackson favorite for years, and once you taste the food, you’ll know why. Head to Scrooge’s one Wednesday for a delicious serving of Fried Chicken Breast, complete with two sides and your choice of French bread, cornbread, or hushpuppies. Barrelhouse Fried Chicken Blue Plate

Known for their small plates, drink specials, and tuna nachos, Barrelhouse also has delicious plate lunches. Enjoy their Fried Chicken Breast that comes with topped with your choice of hot pepper honey or parmesan cream, along with two sides and a piece of homemade cornbread. Be sure to wash it down with a craft beer or specialty cocktail while you’re at it. Check out Barrelhouse’s menu:
